Campervans & Camper Van Conversions

New sites: All about the Volkswagen LT | My infatuation continues: Campervan Man

I've been a camper van fan since my first family holiday in one way back in the '70s. We hired a Ford Landliner and drove over to France and I loved being able to have your home come with you and the ease of making and breaking camp that a van brings.

Whilst still living at home it possessed me to convert a van in order to go on some much needed travels, so I bought an ex-motorcross van - a Hanomag Henschel (the predecessors of Mercedes) - and knocked through into the garage to put in a double bed and a shower. You can read more about JJ the Hanomag Henschel conversion here.

Years later when I'd settled down and was planning a family I decided the bug bit again and I decided to do my own conversion from scratch. It was really the only way to afford something nice and, well, boys will be boys - I needed a project! The Archiemobile was born. Read the story of my VW LT camper conversion here.

That old LT lasted a good few years and saw me through some changes. However I was worried that the cost of up-keep would soon out-weigh her value, so we sold her (and almost for a profit!). 9 years of hard work culminated in enough money to start researching a wholly different class of van and this time round we researched and bought an Adria Twin on a Fiat Ducato base vehicle. Here's a page I wrote on researching fixed rear bed campervans.

Money comes and goes and sadly (or rather more importantly) we needed funds to do up the house, so we moved on taking a 3 year hiatus while kiddy #2 appeared on the seen. Now we are fortunate enough to be in possession again at last of our latest dream machine a Westfalia Florida on the Mk 1 VW LT chassis. She's a classic and a beauty and we love her to bits. She's an import and here are some notes I've written about importing a LHD campervan into the UK. Enjoy. Cheers
A classic traveller wagon converted for a 5 month drive round Europe. My second conversion, and from scratch. A great base vehicle, first of 2 owned. Our spell of luxury in this classic modern high top conversion. The best of all worlds! Sits 6, sleeps 4, and has a shower!
